So yesterday I wrote about the book I am reading, and there was a section called "Happy to be Me," or something along those lines... that asked you to identify what makes you unique. It's something that I have been thinking about off and on, along with the question "Who am I?" since that time. I'm pretty confident that I have that very well answered at this time in my life, but it's ever changing and it's been awhile since I've thought about it, so I just kinda wanted to process that a little more. Something that bothers be when people describe who they are is that they say "I'm a mother, I'm a wife...I'm a therapist...ect." I do not personally feel that we are our titles. Like I said yesterday, you are "Your gifts, your talents, your passions, your eccentricities, your dislikes, your weaknesses, your interests, and your uniqueness." With that being said... who am I?

Resolution for Women - Authentically Me - A Resolution to Value Myself and Celebrate Others
Part One: Intelligent Design
This first section didn't touch me too deeply and was a very important piece at the same time. This section talked about how at times, we take untrue information and allow our self-worth to be determined by this information. It talked about how we take false, wordly ideology, sometimes false things spoken over us by others and allow that to dictate who we think we are in life. Instead we need to assign genuine value to who we are, based on God given worth, talents, gifts and abilities. We are to "Dig deep and lean in to the truth - the truth of who you are and what He's created you to offer to the world."
Read 1 Peter 2:9-10 and record the statements of value declared concerning you. Make a point of really studying and meditating on this Scripture, digging into the truths revealed.
1 Peter 2:9-10 states: "But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy."
I think this is very important, but for some reason mentally I am just not in a place to really reflect on it. I guess I will come back to it, because I know this is something that I struggle with.
Part Two: Supernatural Selection
This section hit home much more deeply. This section was based on Jeremiah 1:5: "I chose you before I formed you in the womb; I set you apart before you were born. I appointed you a prophet to the nations." These are profound declarations for our lives, God is saying "I chose you!" "I set you apart!" "I appointed you!" For reasons that we may not understand or even agree with, God has selected us as His own. This wasn't a half hearted decision, it was intentional with consideration and wise choice. Even if we cannot see why God would choose us, He is well aware. This is hard for me at times. As at times, I feel unloved, unappreciated and undervalued. In MY opinion AT TIMES I estimate my value as there being little that is redeemable or attractive enough to make me valuable or worth another's attention. However, little of this matters, because it is not me who chooses my value. as God states in John 15:16: "You did not choose Me, but I chose you." Well, I guess I've been told. It's not my opinion that matters one bit...it's His...He is the one that asserts my value and who the heck am I to argue? I guess I just need to work on believing and trusting that. I don't even know if that's accurate because I KNOW that to be true, it's just my insides don't always match what my head knows to be true.
The other part of this is that he set us apart. He did not make us to be like any of the others He has made. If we spend all our time looking at the other's that He has made, wishing we had their skills and talents, who we were made to be goes unattended. There are skills that we have that were made to bless others and those others may only hear the message God has for them from US, from our words, our perspective and in our voice. We were each made to be only ourselves and if we fail to be who we were made to be, we're robbing others of the blessing He designed for us to fulfill. Someone, somewhere needs YOU, not your version of someone else, so giddy up and get to being YOU. We need to get to enjoying who we are, not being upset that we're not more like whomever else we think we'd rather be more like. The author says it best: "Even if you may not be inherently pleased with the person He's made you to be, even if you may not be abundantly happy with the circumstances you're currently living, you can be sure that God has planted you here with design and intention. He has selected the 'soil' where you're presently growing." You are in the season and place that you are in your life for a reason that He has chosen, to grow how He believes you need to grow. Who are we to say He's wrong? We (myself included) need to quit asking "Why" or saying that He's wrong and there's no purpose for where we are, and get busy taking whatever He has for us right where we are, in. There's no point in trying to produce someone else's life in your own. Trust Him, He knows and has plans specifically for us.
Consider the things you may have failed to do because you felt ill equipped or unworthy to participate in. Choose one of them to begin doing this week.
I have thought for some time that I am scared of success. There are a lot of things that I do until the VERY LAST STEP of completion. I think that many times I think that I will be ill equipped to live that goal into the future. I can fight for it, work for it, strive for it, but living it in maintenance is something I doubt in myself. I think that this has played out in my life in many areas. I need to trust that He has placed these goals/desires into my heart and they were plans for my future not just to work for.
Part Three: Happy to Be You
I like this one...why? Cause there are a lot of ways I know that I fall short (because I am human, and we all do, not a self-deprecating statement at all), but I think that I am heading in the right direction with this topic. The author states "Many of us spend so much of our lives wishing or pretending we were somebody different from who we are, we never get to experience the sheer freedom of just being ourselves." God made made you, YOU. Just the way you were meant to be. Your gifts, your talents, your passions, your eccentricities, your dislikes, your weaknesses, your interests, and your uniqueness. We need to take time to look at those things, who are we what are those things that make us, us? We can often times overlook those things, those remarkable aspects that make us special because we're used to them. They are unremarkable to us, just another piece of our routine. often times we need to ask those around us, what they see? Ask them, "What makes me unique?" I think that at times, we do this with the most important people around us as well...because they're just there in our life and we always get to benefit from their gifts, we forget that what they bring to the relationship is damn important and crazy special! Being able to live out all those things that make us truly special, leaves us unburdened by the exhaustion of making impressions and trying to act like people that we are not.
Record uniqueness other people see in you.
Woo hoo!! I'm off the hook for answering this one. This one is up to you... my reader...! :)
Part Four: The Affirmation Crusade
LOVE this section, however I don't have a lot of time to delve into it. Here is the skinny...when we become comfortable with who we are, we can stop the time consuming frustrating process of expecting others to fit into who we think that should be and appreciate them for who they are. And, although our self-worth should never depend on compliments and approval from others, there is certain depth and blessing when we are affirmed by other women. Sure, appreciation from men is flattering, but there's so much more purity, simplicity and sincerity from a compliment from another woman. Resolve to affirm the women in your life. it is a unique gift that only we can give to each other.

Friend (fr nd). n. 1. A Person Whom One Knows, Likes, and Trusts
This is a topic that I have thought about a lot and have pretty strong opinions about. However, as a woman who has not always gotten along with, or maybe for a better description...understood most other women...it's not something that I have known exactly how I even feel about. So you're going to have to forgive me if I am all over the place on this one... I'm still trying to figure out and navigate friendships with women. ;)
Mom and I were on a run the other night and started talking about who is a friend and why do we value the friendships that we do. I'm not even sure why this came up, but it was brought up because I have a "friend" that recently (within the last year), completely cut me out of her life because I did not call/see her as often as she thought that I should (which was at times more often then I see/talk to my own family memebers). This friend cut me out of her life because she wanted my address to send me a post card while she was on vacation and I did not call her back (not out of malice) until after she had already left for vacation. I guess that was her last straw and she has since decided that my friendship was not worth seeking out anymore.
This has got me thinking... what is it about my deepest, most valuable friendships, that I enjoy? I have some close girl friends that I would no joke, lay down my life for. If any of those girls called me and said "Brooke I need you to quit your job and come be by my side, 24/7," I would do so in a heartbeat. My loyalty to these girls in my heart is passionate. I would go to bat for them, love them and defend them endlessly. So...what is it about these girls that has made them so valuable?
Couple things...non judgement, loyalty, love - very deep, unconditional love, and understanding. One of, if not thee biggest things is our grace for each other. There's never finger pointing or you did or didn't do this, there's just TONS and TONS of grace. Emily (one of those relationships I speak of) once said it best, that we can go months and months without talking and no one jumps down anyones throat that we havent called, or returned calls in x, y, z amount of time, ect., ect. No, we just call when we can and completely value the time that we have together, almost like we'd not skipped a second together. Another thing that makes these relationships stand out? Forgiveness without even being asked for forgiveness. Seriously... pretty awesome right? I tell you they're amazing girls. One of my very closest friends, at no one's shock is thee most beautiful Jennifer Christine Anderson. I could do a whole blog about why this stunning young woman is amazing. She has been there for me, knows me and loves me like very few people in my life have ever loved me. Recently she knew that I had not had the best of times lately, and made sure that because of that, my birthday was incredible. She contacted my momma and all my closest lady friends and made sure that I had a night that was devoted to loving me. Pretty awesome friend, right? That wasn't even close to the part that makes this woman stand out. Her birthday was just two months later and I kept thinking "You need to do something very special for Jen's 30th!" However... things got busy, life got in the way and I ended up flying to Arizona to be with my grandma on her birthday and Jen got a "Happy Birthday!" text from me, 30 mins before the end of her birthday. SHITTASTIC friend of the year right here!!! I then kept meaning to do something special for her after, but again, let my priorities get mixed up (as I often do) and did not end up doing anything for her until MARCH 17th! March 17th... the girl's 30th birthday was February 12th, and now she has to share the celebration day with thousands of drunk people celebrating a fake holiday? No offense to you Irish people out there. But wow... really? But you know what? Jen just gave me grace. She wasn't mad, she didn't punish me by being distant or not calling me for weeks (as I have experienced in other catty female friendships), no... she said "I can't wait to spend the night with the people that I love!" DAYUM, I am lucky to have that girl!! The other girls do the same thing... I can be a really crappy friend when I am struggling and not a one has stepped down, backed off, held it against me or guilted me for things they could have RIGHTFULLY done so about. Emily keeps on calling me even though I never return her phone calls, Lindsey talks to me like we've spent every single day together for the last 15 years, even though I struggle to make her part of my monthly life, let alone weekly or daily. And that girl, THEE most loyal, I am there for you RIGHT NOW if you want me to be friends, I have ever had!! Jenni loves me and loves me and loves me, even though at times lately our friendship has been a lot of her giving and me taking. Tammy continues to encourage and love me even though I can be so self focused at times that I forget to even ask how she's doing. And Stacy...she's one of the greatest friends that I have been blessed with, that in just a few short months will be my sister!!! She's great. I can be 100% Brooke with her, I can take my whole messy self and go "Here this is EVERYTHING, I'm such a big pile of crap," and she looks at me and says "Gosh I love you! How can I help you get to where you want to be!?" ***TEARS*** I am SOOO blessed!!!
Why do they continue to give and love when at times I have been less then deserving? And I am not by any means tooting my own horn, 'cause yeah...I'm just not, but I'd like to think that it's because I have...we have made that investment into each other that we know each other's hearts and know that mistakes happen and it doesn't mean that I or you are a shitty friend if we hurt each other, it means we're human and I know that you'd NEVER hurt me out of malice, so why even bring it up? I know you already hurt for hurting me, more then I was even hurt! True story!
So when I have friends cutting me out of their lives because I can't meet their standards, I think "Did I not bring enough positives to our relationship for you to overlook the very human tendencies I have to bring some negative as well?" Cause gosh... I have LOTS AND LOTS of faults, and struggle with a great number of issues, but a know that I am a FANTASTIC, loving, giving person. I know that I am valuable and can be a rich partner in friendship. I encourage everyone to really be careful with your friendships and dole out serious doses of forgiveness, love and grace. We're ALL fighting a really hard battle and need eachother.

I had some good advice from my sister-in-law, to identify how I was feeling and where I was at when I make
off program choices. So...really...the only impulsive, unplanned choice I made today was the chocolate chip
cookie. I was busy at work and had been pushing lunch back at this point for 2 hours. I struggle with food at
work. I'm usually running around and then will be caught off guard with some delicious looking treat on one
of the units. I need to remember that they are ALWAYS there and I don't have to indulge every time.
Otherwise the others were planned indulgences, where I weighed my options and chose that was a decision I wanted to make. I chose healthier options such as low-fat over regular and was ok with this being one of my
days with off program foods for the week.
Exercise:
Tortilla chips!! OMG, you are my kryptonite!! They have HUGE bags of them on ALL the units at work. It's so easy to just grab a handful, and they're so very yummy! Need to stay the hell away. Chocolate was a planned indulgence and it was yummy!
Bad food in my house... gone now.
Again, gummy worms have been destroyed. Out of sight out of mind. ;)
Exercise: 40 mins of Insanity - core
Made the best choice I could, given where I was. Should have passed on the frosty. :-/
My thoughts on the week... didn't meet either goal (of working out 5x and only have 3-4 days of off plan foods). Sad face! However, I'm still thinking it was an ok week. I did for the most part pretty darn good. I clearly need to be getting my booty moving more, and need to make better choices, but I cannot say that it was a horrible week. There were times that I just said "I don't need that," to bad decisions and worked out when I didn't feel like it. So, again, success. :)

1/2 hamburger bun was a good idea as I could have had the full, but the rest were definitely impulse eating. I have a really hard time making healthy choices at the group home. There's so much crappy (but seemingly delicious food around me).

Tortilla chips!! OMG, you are my kryptonite!! They have HUGE bags of them on ALL the units at work. It's so easy to just grab a handful, and they're so very yummy! Need to stay the hell away. Chocolate was a planned indulgence and it was yummy!

Exercise: 60 mins - P90X - Shoulders and Arms
WEEKLY WEIGHT LOST: -1.4, which is a little disappointing, because I was down 3.4 in the middle of the week, but what do ya do? Moving right along.

Resolution for Women - Purposefully Feminine
Chapter number two of my small group book, section one = "Pretty in Print." This section was about how as women we have fought so hard for so long for equal rights, that we may have swung the pendulum too far in the opposite direction, and how do we have biblically based femininity in a post feminist world? The author asserts and I agree, that we may have robbed our gender of the uniqueness we've been created to exhibit and experience by our zest to be 100% equal. Do I agree with this as much as I would guess most Christian women do? NO WAY...I'm a pretty darn liberal, feminist for being a Christian conservative. How's that for irony? ;) But I like how she says "You are a paradox - a potent mixture that surprises with your controlled energy, who inspires and entices by your mysterious grace, whose lifestyle causes others to reconsider and refocus their presuppositions, drawing them toward the God who makes a woman so rich, deep and captivating." That's exactly how I feel actually...a potent mixture of paradoxes. A woman wanting to be seen as equal, but treated tenderly and yielding.
In this section she asks: What Biblical principles of womanhood strike you as stifling or repressive? Why do you think you feel that way?
The only thing that I can think of is not specifically a principle, but the way I've watched women (I think) misguidedly apply them to their lives. I've seen women hide behind who God calls us to be as women and use those thing to justify not being strong, or standing up for ourselves. I've seen women continue down destructive paths, using "This is how God wants me to be as a women," as an excuse to not be strong as well. Yes we are supposed to yield at times unconditionally, but one of my other favorite versus is Proverbs 26:11 - "As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool repeats his foolishness." God has used this verse with me in the past and I'm returning to it now again in my life, that you can forgive people, but if they continue and continue with the same behavior that you've repeatedly forgive them for, and return to their vomit so to speak...I don't have to keep returning with them. I don't have to wait to be hurt again and again and again, hiding behind "Oh but this is who God wants me to be."
"It's Good to be a Girl," section two. So...God has made us unique from men and we're supposed to play a specific role. Problem is, most of us Christian women have no clue what that looks like! I know for a long time I had no clue and I still struggle with it. Few places in our life is our Godly knowledge, or lack thereof, more noticeable then with our understanding of the Biblical definition of womanhood. How are we to be aware of what this faith entails, if we are not aware of God's intention for creating us fantastic creatures? I personally believe that the secular world has a HUGE misconception about how God desires a woman to be seen in the world. This is due to lack of understanding of His word. If we look at Genesis 1:27, it says you were created in God's likeness, "God created man in His own image...He created them male and female." We as women are worth no less then our male counterparts, clearly different, but only in function, not in value. I agree with the author, that "The false perception that an inequality of value exists between men and women has caused many women to be taken advantage of."
God never meant for us to be less then men. Sin made things messy and that was somehow the message that was passed down, however never His intention. His belief is that we are good, necessary, important and worthy. The Lord has placed each of us where we are right now and the circle of those around us are in NEED of each of us. You my dear sweet thing, are not an addendum or a last minute after-thought. Without you, much would be lacking! How's that for awesome? I think He kind of fancies us!! I should bookmark that to read...you know...33 seconds from now when I am struggling to believe it myself! Not only did God never intend for us to be second rate, when Jesus came, he tried to redeem His intentions. Look at John, where Jesus engages the woman at the well. He not only engages her, but invites her opinions on issues that women were not expected to have any knowledge on during that time. Despite culture's dislike for women at that time, Jesus treated her like a person of intelligence, someone who mattered, and someone who was worthy of him.
The question asked of this section was: How do you raise daughters to be ambitious, educated, and sure of themselves while at the same time help them appreciate the rewards and blessings of submission.
Well hot diggity... heck if I know! When I think of that, I think "Ask my friend Joey!" Her daughter Jayna
Section three: "Role Reversal." The title of this section is a little off in my opinion as I took the section as less about role reversal and more about why submission is not a bad thing! It talks about the referee in a football game, and how without the limitations, rules and guidelines, the game and the players talents would be in chaos. A metaphor I've heard plenty of times before, in relation to God's rules for our lives. In this section it relates to relationships, and not just marital relationships, but submission and authority in relationships in general. Human relationships were not designed to be constant struggles for power and strength, but rather self-controlled acceptance of clearly outlines roles. I truly believe that this is true and the environment where our strengths can be best used. As crazy as it sounds, I do believe that submission is where we find ultimate freedom.
By keeping ourselves within the divine roles of submission, to LEGITIMATE authority, that's where we find ourselves inside the most protective covering of the Lord. When we're not, when we're fighting for our own power to be displayed where ever and when ever we so desire, that's when we see our strengths, coursing through our nature and personality, we find our inability to yield to authority established by God. The hardest part I think is when that authority is not legitimate and abusing the powers entrusted to them by God. Each must still, even then, respect the position, regardless of how inadequate we believe that person to be carrying out their job. There's obviously limitations to this, that the author touches on later.
Here's where I think she addresses the "Role Reversal" of the section. "And while some of these rights have been worth defending, such movements have primarily been crusades to position women not only on equal footing with men but above men - in some cases above God Himself." In these times, we fail to realize that our most powerful right of all is to yield to appropriate authority with dignity. I do see a society where women have gone above the authority of men and men have passively neglected their roles as leaders. I think this is because somewhere along the lines we were told that submission meant waving our white flag and fading into some lesser way of living. When that's not what it is at all...it's working within the confines of the best ways to display your strengths.
Back to the misuse of authority...Those that misuse their authority WILL BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE TO GOD, and have to answer to how wisely, carefully, devotedly and Biblically they handled their roles as well. However, this does not even sort of ascertain that you must submit to anyone who leads you into sin or is abusive toward you. If your conscience is questioning if this is God's will, versus a simple issue of pride, use proper discernment.
I will champion God's model for womanhood in the face of a post feminist culture.
