Things I'm Doing Well Today - 11/29/12

I am REALLY hard on myself, like brutally.  Couple weeks ago, my therapist asked me what she thought I was doing well at in life and I looked at her blankly.  Well... I'm 30, almost 31... no kids, lost my house, living with my little brother and his wife, sometimes get behind on my bills, I'm overweight and only sometimes enjoy my job.  I didn't have much to tell her that I thought I was rocking at.  She asked "What about your job?  You seem to be good at what you do."  My thought was "You're supposed to do well in your job."  That's how I was raised.  You work hard and do your job well, and you don't get a medal for that.  It's what you're supposed to do.  Your reward is your paycheck, that's kinda the contract that's set up.  However, in the awesome way that she does, she was like "Brooke!  Not everyone is good at their job, you get lots of kudos for being very good at your job!  Not to mention, you just ran 13.2 miles, I can't run 13.2 miles..." and listed some other stuff in which she thought I should be proud of, but I sort of just think of as shit you're supposed to do and supposed to do well in life.  So... she wanted me to make daily lists of crap I'm doing well and that I'm proud of.  I'm the worst client ever, and think everything she tells me to do is stupid (even though I know 100% sure, she's right) and of course, haven't done it.  Well... I think I might try.  I doubt I'll get one in every day, but hey...I'll do it when I think of it.  How damn hard can it be?  And... if it makes me feel more positive about me, then what did it hurt?  Nothing.

So, drum roll please...  Today... Thursday, 11/29/12, I did the following...well:

1.  I've only had one soda.  Go me!  I thought about having another, but chose water instead.
2.  I made plans with friends and family
3.  I grabbed Shakeology for the road, so I stay on track when I am not home in the morning.
4.  I cleaned up my office of clutter (something I've been putting off for a long time) and made it a positive environment for me to be in.
5.  I ordered the DVD and participant's guide to the new Bible study for my group.
6.  I have made wise food choices today.
7.  I didn't change the radio during a painful song and chose to just feel the feelings instead.  Sounds silly, but I am the QUEEN of avoiding the feelings that hurt (stay tuned for future blog post), so this was good.
8.  I wrote my health goals down (see previous post) which is something I've been thinking about for weeks.
9.  I have plans I'm looking forward to tonight.
10.  I'm trying to take my negative thoughts captive as they come and reminding myself of the positive truths.  I'm not always successful, and the tears come as they are supposed to I guess, but it's better then ignoring my feelings and coping in negative ways right?

Well... she suggested 3, so I guess I'm good for the next 3 days then.  ;)  Off to go spend some time with those I love and that love me in return.  I am blessed.
